Barangay Balabag is one of the poorest barangays in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental and is one of the most severely affected barangays of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) brought by COVID-19. Moreover, the families in Barangay Balabag are mostly sugar laborers and ‘Tiempo Muerto’ or Dead Season to the sugar industry which results to loss of income makes them more vulnerable in the midst of ECQ.
Despite all these, Barangay Balabag remains as one of the most proactive and most resilient barangays in the City. For several years, Barangay Balabag was recognized as the most environment friendly barangay and a role model for youth volunteerism. The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Balabag inspired TÁHUD to launch the Mangkasanon Pantawid COVID through their initiative and service to their community during these trying times.
Through the #WeGiveAsOne Campaign of BEAGIVER, the Mangkasanon Pantawid COVID aims to extend help to indigent families in Brgy. Balabag affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine(ECQ) brought by COVID-19. This campaign aims to provide food packs for 150 families who are mainly daily wage earners, farmers, and senior citizens. Moreover, this campaign also aims to extend the provision of food packs for two (2) more weeks after the (ECQ) to help them get back on their feet. The food pack contains: 4kgs Rice, 8 Canned Goods, 6pcs Noodles, 10pcs Twin Pack Coffee and 1 Loaf Bread.
